About Jhon Rose & Moe Mac

How did you get into photography?

When I was a kid I used to always make movies with my video camera. I was convinced I was going to be a Hollywood director. As I got older I realized I enjoyed television more than movies and set my sights on the small screen. After attending film school I decided to leave the program early and get married and start a family instead. Leaving dreams of doing anything that had to do with a camera behind. After having my first child and with another on the way I was contemplating on getting a second job while Moe was still in cosmetology school. My father came home one day with a Nikon D40X and told me not to get a 2nd job but to stick to what I’m naturally good at. He handed me the camera and although I never considered photography as a way to channel my artistic side I fell in love with it.

What drives you to do what you do?

I have always considered myself the Artless Artist because as creative as I am I haven’t found that one way to channel my art and bring to life what I see in my own head. With photography I can now do that while collaborating with my closest friends to create awesome content. I want to one day open my own studio and I won’t stop until I can one day make that happen. I don’t really enjoy working for other people so if I can work for myself and create my own path then I get to spend more time with my wife and kids. So I can create generational  wealth within my own Family.

Who is your role model and why?

My wife. I watch how she found something she loves to do and found it without really expecting to love it as much as she does. She started cosmo school to become certified so that she could manage a salon because that’s what she did back in Seattle. I watched her study for her test. She Got up everyday while pregnant. she had the baby and then went back to school. Her school got shut down. She found another school got pregnant again and graduated. Never once did she complain about it. There were times when she didn’t understand a few concepts but to see how she just kept going and going inspired me to not only find what I love but do it. It’s seeing her cross the finish line that has me back in school and on my way to finishing my degree.

What would be your one superpower?

I think I would want super speed. I have so much to do everyday. I’m running around for me, my wife, my kids, my cousins, my brother and a handful of other people. I don’t mind doing it. It would just be nice to do it faster. I might need new pants though. You know that don’t burn from the friction.

If someone wanted to see your work, what's the best way they can do that?
